Stage set for 16th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament

IMPHAL, Feb 4 : The 16th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament is all set for a momentous opening at Artificial Turf Ground at Takyel, SAI Sports Complex, Imphal on February 6.
With the ground preparation work being completed ahead of the tournament organised annually as a tribute to Shaheed Manoranjan Singh, Assistant Commandant, CRPF, a full dress rehearsal for the opening ceremony was conducted today.
Notably, Shaheed Manoranjan Singh, Assistant Commandant, CRPF, a brave son of Yurembam Makha Leikai, Manipur, made the supreme sacrifice in 2009 while fighting Naxalites in Chhattisgarh and the CRPF has been organising the football tournament in his honour since 2010 in close coordination with the All Manipur Football Association.
 A total of 16 top football teams from across Manipur will participate in the tournament, which will be conducted on a knock-out basis.
The opening ceremony will be graced by IG M&N Sector CRPF, said Commandant of 86 Bn CRPF (CCD) in a press release.
The opening match will be played between SU-Sagolband Moirang Leirak and Milan FA, Keibi from 12 am, it said while extending an invitation to sports lovers and the general public to attend the matches and encourage local talent throughout the tournament as per the official fixture schedule.
