5 Kg opium seized

IMPHAL, Feb 4: State police arrested one person and seized 5.60 kilograms of opium in Senapati district yesterday.
The person arrested has been identified as Athikho Elokho (27) of Kaibi village, Senapati district, said the police.
The police said Athikho Elokho was transporting the opium in a Tata dumper vehicle. The vehicle was intercepted at Martyrs Park, under Mao police station.
From his possession, the police recovered 5.60 kilograms of opium, one mobile phone, Rs 5,200, one Aadhaar and a PAN card.
The police also seized the vehicle, bearing Nagaland registration number.
Notably, this seizure came a day after Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) arrested a driver and seized 15.556 kilograms of brown sugar from North AOC on February 2.
The brown sugar was seized from one 46-year-old man identified as Md Sabir Ahamed of Lilong Nungei.
Md Sabir has been sent to police custody till February 9.
