IMPHAL, Feb 5 : Extending its congratulations to the newly sworn in Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers and the Council of Ministers, the Meitei Alliance has urged the reinstated Government to accord top priority to the safe and time-bound resettlement of internally displaced persons.
In a press release, the Meitei Alliance appealed to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to give the utmost importance to the safe, dignified, and time-bound return of all IDPs from relief camps to their respective places of origin, with adequate security, rehabilitation, and justice mechanisms.
Additionally, it also laid down a list of demands before the newly formed Government, including- abrogation of the controversial Suspension of Operation agreement, identification of illegal immigration through lawful mechanisms such as NRC, delisting of the ambiguous "Any Kuki Tribe" category from the Scheduled Tribe list, eradication of poppy cultivation and drug networks that "run a narco-economy which fuels divisive ethnocentric politics" and eviction of illegal encroachers from Reserved and Protected Forests.
The Meitei Alliance has also appealed to all the people of Manipur to extend their constructive support to the new Government in performing its Constitutional duties, so that long-term peace and harmony can be restored.
