Senapati, Feb 7 : Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho has stated that personal disputes of any kind should not be given a communal angle, as such issues can lead to unnecessary tensions and harm social harmony.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 17th Motbung Veng Tournament at Motbung today, he urged the people of the region to unite and avoid wasting time in conflict, highlighting that the Nagas once lived as headhunters.
Peace is the only means to bring progress and development, he added.
Describing Motbung as a blessed land with peace-loving people, he urged everyone to live their lives with happiness and unity.
He also conveyed the wishes and message of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, who assured that Government programmes and policies, especially for IDPs, will be initiated at the earliest.
Recalling the history of the Kuki-Naga conflict, he said that the people of Motbung stood firm for peace during that difficult period.
He also highlighted that a choir from Motbung visited Punanamei village, a Mao Naga village in Senapati district, as a gesture of goodwill during the height of the conflict.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines, Dikho expressed his happiness in visiting the village/town, which he described as home to peace-loving people in the region.
With the restoration of the popular Government, the Deputy Chief Minister said he felt the need to personally reach out to the people and inform them of the Government's initiatives to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
Dikho emphasised that the Government has been entrusted with a huge responsibility of reaching out to the people and reaffirming their commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the State.
Terming his visit as the first step in a peace mission, Dikho stated that with peace, everything is possible.
The Deputy Chief Minister also mentioned that the State Government has been doing its utmost to restore peace in the State.
He also expressed his happiness in meeting the people of Motbung, who warmly welcomed him.
It was the people of Motbung who initiated peace between the Kukis and Nagas during the Naga-Kuki conflict, he said.
Even during the peak of the Naga-Kuki crisis, people of Motbung came to Mao and spread the message of peace, he added.
