IMPHAL, Feb 8 : MLA Vungzagin Valte was airlifted from Imphal to New Delhi for treatment at Medanta – The Medicity Hospital in Gurugram today.
Valte, who sustained grievous injuries during the May 2023 violence in Imphal, had been staying in Churachandpur following prolonged treatment in Delhi.
As his health condition deteriorated yesterday he was rushed to the Churachandpur Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU for stabilisation.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh monitored Valte’s health condition throughout the night, and immediately dispatched an advanced life- support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight yesterday.
Through tele-conferencing, doctors from Imphal remained in constant touch with the medical team at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital.
Taking personal care of the situation, the Chief Minister urgently arranged an air ambulance to evacuate the BJP MLA, who represents Thanlon Assembly Constituency, to Delhi.
As Valte's condition showed improvement, the MLA was rushed from the Churachandpur Medical College Hospital to Imphal International Airport for evacuation to Delhi this afternoon.
Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of the district, and received by two BJP legislators, Tongbram Robindro Singh and Sanasam Premchandra Singh, at Phoujakhai village, Valte and his family reached Imphal airport at around 4.20 pm.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh received Valte at Imphal Airport. He interacted with Valte’s family members and wished him a speedy recovery.
“Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return,” said Khemchand Singh.
The air ambulance carrying Valte took off from the Imphal airport at around 4.30 pm.
