IMPHAL, Feb 8: The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the Pambei-led UNLF has asserted that political dialogues and ceasefire are employed as a  means of resolving political conflicts in different parts of the world.
A statement issued by the MAC on the occasion of the 39th raising day of its armed wing, Manipur People’s Army (MPA) (February 9) paid deep respect to all leaders and cadres of the party.
The outfit has also paid highest respect to all revolutionary fighters who have laid down their lives in the course of the liberation movement as well as to all those MPA cadres who have been physically and psychologically maimed due to atrocities committed by the enemies.
Their sacrifice is not merely a chapter of history but the one and only foundation of the ongoing struggle, it said.
It further paid respect to all those persons who took part in the liberation at one point of time but have retired from the party due to different compelling reasons and health conditions.
Now the outfit has reached the stage of holding a political dialogue with the Government of India in order to resolve the Manipur-India conflict.
However, some people who do not fully understand this historical necessity have been falsely portraying the political dialogue as a sell-off of the liberation movement. But political dialogues and ceasefire are the most common means employed in different parts of the world to resolve political conflicts, the outfit asserted. The weapons in the possession of MPA fighters are unmistakable evidence of the fact that the outfit has not stepped back from the freedom struggle, it said.
Earlier, the MPA fighters hid in mountains and forests and fought against the adversary forces employing guerrilla tactics. But today, MPA camps have been set up openly in different parts of Manipur.
This is not a question of the outfit surrendering to the enemy. Rather, this is the establishment of the party’s authority in a more well-defined manner, the MAC said.
International geopolitics has been changing continuously. In the aftermath of the Second World War, international politics was largely shaped by the Cold  War between socialism and capitalism.
Now, military strength, technological advancement and control over natural resources have been playing pivotal roles in determining a Nation’s power, it said.
Given the changes seen across the world, one needs to think beyond the aspiration of making Manipur self-reliant. In order to secure the future of Manipur, it is essential to make each and every citizen healthy and resourceful. It is also imperative to eradicate corruption and make each man and woman a person of integrity, it said.
The MAC asserted that all MPA fighters must make sure that their resolve, discipline and behaviour are worth emulation and contribute in elevating the National character.
“Enemies may come and go but our duties are permanent. As such, we need to be always vigilant and prepared”, it said.
The MAC asserted that it is time for the MPA to open a new chapter of history.
Taking advantage of the process of political dialogue, it is essential for the party to build its strength and expand the horizon of its wisdom.
Keeping the spirit of revolutionaries alive is the duty of one and all, it added.
