IMPHAL, Mar 9 : After a poor team event start, Manipur University redeemed themselves by securing both the quad and regu titles at the All India Inter University Sepaktakraw Championships hosted by the Assam University, Silchar from March 6 onwards.
Manipur University earned the women’s quad competition title by securing three of three final league round wins.
Manipur University girls kickstarted their campaign by outlasting JNV University 15-4, 15-4 in the first knock-out round match before seeing off MJPR University 15-5, 15-7 to secure a place in the final league round that decided the winners.
In the first match of the final league round, Manipur University overcame Punjab University 15-11, 15-13 before getting better of hosts Assam University 15-10, 15-10 for the second win.
Manipur University then emerged on top by handing Punjabi University, Patiala a 15-9, 15-9 defeat in the closing final league round match.
Hosts Assam University who secured two wins finished runners up in the competition.
Meanwhile in the regu event, Manipur University knocked out MJPR 15-1, 15-5 to enter the final league round.
Manipur University then edged past Punjabi University 12-15, 17-14, 17-16 in the first match of the final league round before getting better of hosts Assam University 10-15, 15-13, 15-9 in the second match and Punjab University 7-15, 15-8, 15-13 in the third match to top the tally.
Punjabi University who secured wins against Punjab University and Assam University finished runners up in the competition.
Meanwhile in the women’s team event, Manipur University opened their campaign by seeing off Kuvempu University 15-8, 15-8 in the first regu and 15-0, 15-1 in the second regu but suffered three of three losses in the final league round to settle for the bottom fourth place.
Manipur University suffered 1-2 loss to Punjab University in the first final league round match before suffering a similar loss to Punjabi University and a 0-3 loss to hosts Assam University in the following matches.
