IMPHAL, Mar 10 : In another major drug haul, security forces have seized 10.36 Kgs of opium and arrested three drug dealers.
Based on a specific input regarding movement of drugs, a joint team of Maram police station and 16 Assam Rifles set up a surprise mobile checkpost at Naojai at around 4.30 pm today.
The joint team intercepted one Gypsy without registration number at Naojai, about 3 Kms east of Maram police station.
On checking the vehicle, a substance suspected to be opium was detected.
The vehicle was then thoroughly searched in the presence of a Magistrate and approximately 10.36 Kgs of suspected opium was found concealed at the back of the front seat and the right door of the Gypsy.
The driver, Yaronso Ramsan (26) s/o Joy Ramsan of Sirarakhong village, Ukhrul district and co-passenger Shunreingam Khayi (37) s/o Bijoy Khayi of Teinem Village, Ukhrul district were arrested after observing due formalities.
In order to apprehend the receiver of the drugs, the arrested persons were taken by a security team led by the SDPO Senapati in plain clothes to its intended destination.
In the process, K Lucy (43) w/o Pfokreni Paul of Mao Karong was apprehen-ded as the intended receiver.
Sources said that the three arrested individuals are the cultivator, transporter and receiver of the drugs. A case has been registered at Maram PS for further investigation and necessary legal action, said the sources.
