Laiphrakpam Nikhil bags bronze at 7th Senior Para Badminton Nationals

IMPHAL, Mar 10 : Laiphrakpam Nikhil has done Manipur proud by winning a bronze medal at the 7th Senior National Para BAdminton Championship that concluded today at the Heartfulness Gopichand Badminton Academy at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad.
Laiphrakpam Nikhil, who is a junior player from Nambol Awang Leikai, bagged the bronze medal in the SL-3 category competition of the championship that brought together nearly 700  para athletes from across the Country.
Nikhil is the son of late L Romeshchandra and L (ongbi) Suniti Devi and has been training under coach Gaurav Khanna at the Gaurav Khanna Excellia Badminton Academy (GKEBA), Lucknow for the last 8 months, said Spastic Society of Manipur in a press release.
He started his badminton journey at the age of 12 in the local community courts before starting his formal practise sessions at Manipur State Badminton Association’s indoor stadium under the guidance of coach Laishram Rinky, it said.
Coach Rinky introduced Nikhil to his cousin Laishram Tokendra, secretary of Spastic Society of Manipur, it said.
Nikhil then became an active member of the society where he was also awarded the Indus Towers Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, it said.
He has represented Manipur in both the CP (Cerebral Palsy) Football and Badminton before he was sponsored by the Spastic Society of Manipur at the GKEBA, Lucknow, it said.
Nikhil has also bagged three medals for Manipur earlier in the 2nd Junior and Youth National Para Badminton Championship-2025, it added.
