IMPHAL, Mar 10: To address acute shortage of drinking water faced by residents of Tronglaobi village, the Indian Army has installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant at the village under Operation Sadbhavana.
Normal PHED piped water supply to the village had come to a complete halt since May 3, 2023, forcing most households to depend on privately hired water bowsers for their daily needs. This had not only caused inconvenience but also imposed a recurring financial burden on the villagers.
Responding to the situation, the Army established a 500 LPH RO water purification facility, supported by a 1 HP borewell system capable of supplying around 2000 litres per hour. The facility is expected to provide safe drinking water to 50–80 households daily, making it a significant community asset for the village, said the Army in a statement.
The Army said the project was executed by 2 JAK LI Infantry Battalion under 59 Mountain Brigade in close coordination with the Village Water Committee.
Brig Sachin Mahadik, Commander 59 Mountain Brigade, inaugurated the facility in presence of Kon- jengbam Sonikumar Singh (IIS), Regional News Unit AIR Imphal, Somorjit Singh, SDO Moirang, Hemam Rinky Singh, BDO Moirang Block, and the villagers of Tronglaobi.
During the inauguration of the plant, the villagers welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Army for its timely support. Interacting with the residents, the Brigade Commander emphasised the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace, social harmony, and law and order in the region, said the Army.
