Hailstorm wreaks havoc in Senapati

Senapati, Mar 12 : Even as citizens of Senapati wait for the seasonal rain to come, a fierce hailstorm damaged many houses in the district on March 11.
According to some senior citizens, they witnessed some of the biggest hailstones yesterday evening.
The owners of the houses affected in the hailstorm are H Lounie, w/o (L) Ng Thekho; Lounie, w/o Veikhaini; Kholi Poumai, s/o Kholi; Louni Theba, s/o Louni; H Kene, a widow; Thekharu, w/o (L) Daikho Shele; CD Hrani; Rebecca, w/o (L) Mingthing; PH Thekho, s/o P Hrani; Daha, w/o PH Akha and S Ruth, w/o Zhovei, all from Rikhumai Taphou.
Reports have also come in from different colonies citing similar destruction due to hailstones within the district headquarters. Rikhumai Taphou village Chairman has appealed to the authority concerned to compensate the affected families. Prior to yesterday's heavy rain with hailstorm, different colonies in the district experienced a dry season without adequate drinking water.
People bought water from the PHE Department and other private water tankers ferried from Karong River.
Even the water supply from PHED, Senapati, had become less frequent than usual with water drying up due to prolonged delay in rainfall.
