Blast kills kid, injures father

IMPHAL, Mar 14: A six-year-old boy was killed and his father sustained critical injuries when a powerful bomb went off in a paddy field located at Taolinpung, Noney district under Khoupum police station this morning.
Sources said that the incident happened at around 8.30 am when the father and the son were on their way to their paddy field for work.
They came across a rusted lathode bomb.
Not knowing that it was an explosive item, Akul Pamei of Taolingpung village hit the rusted lathode bomb with a spade, resulting in a deadly explosion.
The blast killed Akul Pamei’s son Jaikhangjeipou Pamei on the spot.
Akul Pamei also sustained injuries on both the legs and he was rushed to Khoupum Primary Health Centre before he was brought to Imphal by a team of Khoupum police station for further treatment at Raj Medicity.
The condition of Akul Pamei is said to be serious and he is being kept under observation in the ICU.
The body of Jaikhangjeipou Pamei has also been brought to JNIMS morgue by a team of Khoupum police station for post mortem after inquest of the dead body and its surrounding area.
Khoupum police station has also registered a case regarding the incident, said the sources.
