IMPHAL, Mar 15 : The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) has questioned the State Government's stance on the demand to defer the census operation, after their attempt to meet Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur AC MLA) failed today.
The CJFD claimed that they took an appointment in advance for the meeting, but the Home Minister failed to show up.
Notably, as previously announced, the CJFD launched a campaign to urge Ministers and MLAs to clearly state their positions on the census issue.
However, their meeting with the Home Minister did not take place today.
Reportedly, women activists from Bishnupur secured the appointment for the meeting yesterday.
Today, a CJFD team, led by its convenor Jitendra Ningomba, finance secretary Sunil Karam, and several women activists, visited the residence of Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam at Ningthoukhong around 10 am.
The visiting team was received by BJP Bishnupur Mandal secretary RK Pholmani, and discussions were held.
After keeping them waiting for nearly 30 minutes, the CJFD team was informed that the Home Minister was in Imphal and would not be able to attend the meeting.
The visiting team left without meeting the Home Minister.
Speaking to the media, Jitendra expressed disappointment with the Home Minister for not showing up to discuss such an important issue (census).
Questioning whether the State legislators are taking the issue lightly, he demanded that the Manipur Legislative Assembly pass a resolution to postpone the census until illegal immigrants are identified during the ongoing House session.
