Gunfight scares New Kaiphundai

IMPHAL, Mar 20: A fierce gun fight broke out between ZUF (JK) and suspected NSCN(IM) cadres at New Kaiphundai, Tamenglong district along Imphal-Jiribam highway under Tousem police station this morning.
The incident took place at around 8.30 am at New Kaiphundai village when all of sudden a gunfight broke out between suspected ZUF (JK) and suspected NSCN(IM) cadres forcing the villagers to flee to safer places, sources said.
The gun fight erupted after cadres of ZUF(JK) allegedly attacked a hideout of NSCN(IM) located at New Kaiphundai village and the gun fight between the two sides lasted for around 30 minutes.
There is no report of any injuries or casualties on either side.
Soon after the incident, a team of paramilitary forces and State police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Traffic movement along the National Highway halted till this afternoon due to the gunfight, said the sources.
