IMPHAL, Mar 27 : NEROCA FC hosted a prayer cum motivation talk this morning ahead of their I-League 2 campaign beginning tomorrow with a home match against Delhi Football Club at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
The programme held at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong was attended by functionaries of the club and the players.
Speaking at the event, NEROCA FC coordinator Dr Moirangthem Manimohon stressed on the importance of discipline and fair play and told the players to maintain the highest standard of discipline and respect the opponents regardless of the result.
He also advised the players to work collectively and enter the field with commitment and unselfish approach.
NEROCA FC are the first team to give Manipur the taste of I-League. The team not only made runners up finish in the 2017 I-League now called Indian Football League but also secured the runners up title in the Durand Cup the same season, he recalled.
Following the COVID pandemic and the ethnic conflict that began on May 3, 2023, the club have taken a nosedive, he rued while expressing his desire to see the team retain their lost glory and once again join the league of top performing professional football clubs in the country.
The onus is now on the players to lift the team, he said while encouraging the players to give their best in the 3rd tier men’s professional domestic league tournament and help the team find their way back into the Indian Football League and grow further.
He also called upon all the football enthusiasts of the State to witness the revamped team hosting Delhi Football Club from 3 pm tomorrow.
NEROCA FC will play Sporting Clube of Goa on April 3 in the second home match before hosting Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC on May 8 and Sudeva Delhi FC on May 14.
