Cop on drug trail stabbed

IMPHAL, Mar 30: A police officer chasing an alleged drug dealer sustained injuries after he was attacked and stabbed.
The incident happened at Khergao Yumkhaibam Leirak, Imphal East under Porompat police station at around 7 pm on March 29, 2026.
A police team including commandos led by Imphal East District Police Cyber Unit Officer-in-Charge Inspector Md Rajiv went to Khergao Yumkhaibam Leirak to arrest one Yumkhaibam Najakat (35) s/o Md Riyakat alias Ibothem who is alleged to be a drug dealer.
But the people present at the house of Najakat raised an uproar and one of them stabbed Inspector Md Rajiv, sources said.
Rajiv sustained injuries on the left arm.
Later, Najakat was arrested with the help of reinforcement teams from Imphal East District Police, said the sources.
Najakat was arrested earlier too in connection with a drug-related FIR registered at Porompat police station, said the sources.
