Imphal, Mar 9 : In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, on behalf of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, ho-noured and welcomed two distinguished doctors from Chandigarh for their extra-ordinary humanitarian ser- vice to the people of Manipur.
The doctors honoured were Dr Shyamkumar Thingnam, former Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at PGIMER Chandigarh, and Dr Manoj-kumar Rohit, Professor and Head of Paediatric Cardiology in the same department.
Since the fall of 2024, the two doctors have been regularly visiting Manipur, performing complex heart surgeries free of charge for patients at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
During each visit, they spend nearly three to four weeks in the State, conducting life-saving heart ope- rations almost daily, offering hope and healing to many families.
On behalf of the Chief Minister, Nishikant Singh Sapam expressed deep appreciation for their noble service.
He said that their willingness to leave behind their families and dedicate their valuable time to treat Mani-pur’s patients, without any fee, reflects the highest spirit of humanitarian service and true dharma.
Their selfless commitment has already benefited many heart patients across the State, many of whom could not have otherwise afforded such specialised treatment, he said.
On behalf of the people of Manipur, Nishikant extended his sincere gratitude to both doctors for their compassion, dedication, and invaluable contribution to the health and well-being of the people of Manipur.
