IMPHAL, Apr 9 : Heeding COCOMI's call to hold democratic protest demonstrations, Meira rallies were organised across Imphal West, Imphal East and Thoubal districts late in the evening today.
The meira rallies condemned the "murder" of the two children in the April 7 bomb attack at Tronglaobi and subsequent killing of several protesters in CRPF firing.
The Meira rallies called on the Government to take up strong actions against perpetrators who launched the bomb attack that killed the two children.
Slogans were also raised against Central security forces, alleging their failure to prevent attacks and protect civilians.
Several clubs in Thoubal Sabaltongba organised the rally at Thoubal district.
Earlier in the day together with IDPs taking refuge at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhong-nangkhong, COCOMI lit lamps and offered prayer for the victims of Tronglaobi terror attack this evening.
COCOMI members and the IDPs lit lamps in front of a banner printed with photographs of the kids killed in the terror attack and embossed with the words, “Narendra Modi, where is your humanity” and “Is this your Vikshit Bharat?”.
They also held placards which read as “Narendra Modi, Amit Shah down, down”, “Launch military crackdown against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists” and “Manipur CM, HM, step down” etc
The gathering observed silence for one minute in memory of the victims of the terror attack.
Speaking to media persons, COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren alleged that the inhuman and barbaric act of killing sleeping kids was a part of the proxy war being waged by the Government of India using Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists which are under and outside the SoO agreement.
Even though the COCOMI has been urging to rein in the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists since the violence broke out on May 3, 2023, neither the Central Government nor the State Government has been paying any heed. Instead, the narco-terrorists are being given a free hand and this was testified by the Trong-laobi terror attack, Dhiren said.
The Centre and the State Government must bear responsibility for the terror attack, and a decisive military crackdown must be launched against Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, he said.
He also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. “Let the Central forces which have failed miserably to protect people’s life and property go back. We will defend ourselves”, the COCOMI convenor asserted. He also appealed to all the people to stage protest demonstrations against the Tronglaobi terror attack tomorrow (Friday) too.
