IMPHAL, Apr 10: Everyone now knows who is standing behind the Kukis in their sustained aggression against the Meitei community, said ex-MLA RK Anand.
Speaking to media persons at his Kwakeithel Akham Leikai residence today, RK Anand said that the Kukis have been attacking Meiteis incessantly and there is a strong suspicion that the Government of India has been waging a proxy war against the Meitei community.
It appears that there is a sustained and coordinated effort to extinguish the Meitei people’s sense of nationalism, he said.
The Meitei community’s socio-economic position suffered the worst after Manipur’s merger with the Indian Union in 1949, Anand said.
While all the tribal communities of the State are given constitutional protection, the Meitei community are deprived of any such protection, he said.
Handing over the case of the gruesome murder of two sleeping kids and inflicting critical injuries to their mother, and the Government’s promise of ex-gratia cannot be a solution to the bestial crime, he said.
He also questioned how many of the cases entrusted to the NIA have been solved so far.
The violent conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023 spread across the State as the State Government led by then Chief Minister N Biren could not control it in time.
Then there was the President’s Rule but it could not bring peace in the State. Now, there is a popular Government headed by Chief Minister Y Khemchand but the new Government too is unable to contain the violence, Anand said.
Kuki militants under SoO agreement have been imposing their writs and dictating terms in the hill areas, and the Government has been watching helplessly, he remarked.
Kuki militants have built many bunkers in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, and they have the capability to attack Meitei villages at any time and place of their choice. This was exemplified by the Tronglaobi attack on April 7, 2026, the ex-MLA said.
Pointing out that the Meiteis are being confined within the small valley area, RK Anand asserted that any attempt to enslave the Meiteis must be resisted fiercely.
As long as the Meiteis are alive, no force can break the integrity of Manipur, he asserted.
Anand urged the incumbent MLAs and Ministers to take up concrete actions to protect Manipur. He said that they must resign if they are incapable of protecting the State.
The ex-MLA underscored the need to abrogate the SoO agreement and launch a military crackdown against the Kuki militants who have been perpetrating all kinds of violence.
The press meet was organised by the Coordinating Committee, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC and members of the committee observed a two-minute silence in protest against the Tronglaobi incident where five persons including two kids were killed and scores injured.
