Sexualt assault cases : Courts remand two individuals to police custody

IMPHAL, Apr 10 : Two individuals (accused) have been remanded to police custody in connection with two separate sexual assault cases reported in Imphal West and Imphal East.
In the first case, the Special Court POCSO Imphal West remanded a 45-year-old man to police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in mid-March 2026, at around 9 am in Imphal West district, under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station.
The accused was produced before the Court by a team of Singjamei police station.
What the APP submits
The APP for the State stated that, on the evening of April 9, the mother of the minor victim filed a complaint against the accused.
The mother claimed that on the morning of April 3, while she and her aunt were in a paddy field, the aunt informed her that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by her brother-in-law, who was staying at her parental house.
On receiving the news, the complainant immediately returned home and spoke to her daughter.
The victim revealed that the accused sexually assaulted her in the evening after the 2026 Yaoshang Festival and threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.
During the investigation, the accused admitted to the charges.
The APP said that the accused is highly needed in police custody to extract further details of the case.
After hearing the submissions of the APP and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to police custody till April 16 for further investigation.
In another case, a 37-year-old man has been remanded to police custody on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl over the past three months in Imphal East, under the jurisdiction of Porompat police station.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal East, by a team of Imphal East women police.
The APP for the State submitted that the accused surrendered to the police earlier today.
According to a complaint filed by the father of the victim, his daughter began vomiting while having a meal on the morning of April 6, around 9.30 am.
When asked, the victim confided that she was sexually assaulted by the complainant's second wife’s elder brother three months ago, when no one else was present.
Out of fear, the victim had not disclosed the assault earlier.
It was later discovered that the minor victim was pregnant, and the attending doctor advised a medical termination of the pregnancy.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to the charges, although the full details of the case are still under investigation.
The prosecution requested police custody remand to ensure a thorough investigation.
After hearing the submission of the APP and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to police custody till April 15.
