SSI football teams return to heroes’ welcome after dominating NER competition

IMPHAL, Apr 11 : Sainik School Imphal (SSI) U-15 and U-17 boys’ football teams who were both crowned champions in the North Eastern Region competition were accorded a heroes welcome today.
In the fiercely competed regional event hosted by Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland, SSI defeated other four Sainik Schools of the region to emerge undisputed winners, said a statement issued by Sainik School Imphal.
The teams were received back with great pomp and show upon their return, it said. The Principal of SSI, Col A Rajiv lauded the efforts of the athletes and the coaching staff including coach Surmani Singh, who was attached through SAI. Speaking at the occasion, he also reiterated the core values of dedication, discipline and concerted hard work, it said.
He further stated that the football supremacy of SSI has returned after a long gap and personally congratulated both the winning captains- Cdt Altaf Singhamayum (U-17) and Cdt Thoungamba (U-15), it said.
The teams who were accompanied by Th Meneka Devi, TGT; Nb Sub Salam Nabakumar, NCC staff and Surmani, coach, will now competed at the All India Level competition
