IMPHAL, Apr 2 : Even if the Government defers the census exercise by 5 or 10 years, the people will remain undeterred until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is enforced in Manipur and foreigners are identified, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has asserted.
In connection with the observation of the 46th Realisation Month, AMSU carried out an academic campaign at Little Master Higher Secondary School, Samurou and Khuman Maheikol, Mayang Imphal today. A poster campaign was also conducted at Singjamei and Canchipur with the slogans "Implement NRC", "Identify foreigners" etc.
Speaking in this connection, Huidrom Punshiba, secretary organisation, AMSU, warned that a massive people's movement might emerge in the State if the Government does not take steps to enforce NRC and detect and deport foreigners in Manipur to their home countries.
The Government should avoid creating any situation that causes the public grievances to spill over as unrest in society.
People have an obligation to save Manipur from outsiders instead or merely resorting to appeals and requests, he said.
The academic campaign was participated by Moirangthem Lokeshor, Principal, Little Master Higher Secondary School; Naorem Manglemjao, Principal, Khuman Maheikol and numerous students.
