IMPHAL/MOIRANG, Apr 2 : Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has praised the valour of Manipur's women during the inauguration of the Khwairakpam Krishnagopal Memorial Building at Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district, today.
The building, dedicated to the grandfather of Home Minister K Govindas, was also formally dedicated to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Ningthoukhong, on the occasion.
Constructed by the Gojendro Foundation within the premises of the CHC, the facility has been handed over to the Government of Manipur to support the expansion and upgradation of the CHC, with a focus on strengthening maternal healthcare through the establishment of a dedicated maternity ward.
Home Minister K Govindas and MLAs of Thanga, Nambol, Oinam, Moirang, Kumbi and Lilong Assembly Constituencies also attended the event.
Addressing the function, the Governor stated that the inauguration of the new facility marked more than the opening of a building, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening hope, dignity, and care for the people, particularly wo-men and mothers who form the backbone of society.
Praising the Gojendra Foundation for its service, the Governor stated that a society prospers when more philanthropists emerge.
He highlighted the enduring strength, resilience, and moral leadership of the Ima community, noting their historic role in shaping society and championing justice and peace.
Observing that the initiative reflected a broader vision of strengthening healthcare infrastructure through collective effort, the Governor expressed hope that it would inspire more organisations and individuals to contribute towards Nation-building.
The facility would stand as a lasting symbol of compassion, unity, and shared responsibility, he said.
The Governor commended the Gojendro Foundation for its continued service to marginalised sections and its generous contribution in constructing and dedicating the building to the Government for the upgradation of the CHC, calling it a noteworthy example of the synergy between public service and philanthropy.
Emphasising the importance of the newly established maternity ward, he stated that improved access to quality maternal healthcare would contribute to safer motherhood and healthier generations.
Govindas, on the other hand, sought the Governor's attention to a proposal for establishing a medical college in Bishnupur, in line with the Government of India's initiative to set up a medical college in each district.
He said a plot of land has already been acquired for the proposed medical college. Representatives of the CHC also submitted memoranda to the Governor, highlighting various concerns related to service delivery and equipment shortages.
Meanwhile, the Gojendra Foundation handed over the documents for the newly inaugurated building to Bishnupur Chief Medical Officer, Dr L Raichandra.
