IMPHAL, Apr 4: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned the alleged "barbaric mentality and uncivilized acts of suspected armed Kuki gangs/militants perpetrated against two innocent Nagas from Rengma community on the night of March 22, 2026 while they were on the way to Imphal, to transact small scale business".
The two members from the Rengma community hail from Tseminyu district of Nagaland.
Such repeated unlawful acts of violence, intimidation, and unlawful extortion along the National Highway in and around Kangpokpi and Motbung areas are highly unacceptable and stand in complete violation of human rights, rule of law, and civil society norms, said the ANSAM.
"These repeated barbaric acts have become their habitual activities due to the negligence of the concerned Government law enforcing agencies and authorities despite the concern of civil society organisations and repeated appeals to look into it seriously", the Naga student body added.
The ANSAM then said the "victimized Naga brothers" were on their business through honest means while they were unlawfully intercepted, subjected to intimi- dation, illegal confinement, and physical assault by unidentified miscreants.
They were further coerced into complying with unlawful demands, and subsequently deprived of their belongings through force and fear. They were even kicked and punched many times with death threats and their cell phones were "forcibly snatched away shamelessly", the ANSAM alleged.
"Such cowardly actions reflect a disturbing breakdown of law and order in and around Motbung and Kangpokpi areas of Manipur and pose a grave threat to the safety and security of the general public", it added.
The ANSAM then strongly urged the Government of Manipur and the concerned law enforcing agencies to deliver justice by initiating a swift, impartial, and transparent inves- tigation and taking up effective measures to ensure safety and security of all civilians traveling along this National Highway between Kangpokpi and Motbung area.
The ANSAM said it "stands in unwavering solidarity with our Naga victim brothers and the Rengma Students’ Union and Nagas of Nagaland to protect our rights and people, and ensure the safety and well-being of all communities in the future".
