IMPHAL, Apr 5: After a brief lull for a few days, suspected Kuki militants opened fire in the Litan area of Ukhrul district today.
Around 5/6 rounds of bullets were fired by suspected Kuki militants from Mongkot Chephu Kuki village area, Ukhrul district, under Litan police station area at around 6 pm today.
According to sources, gunshots were heard by locals of Litan, its surrounding villages and also by security forces deployed in the area.
Some Tangkhul villagers said that they saw drones hovering over their villages as the Kuki militants attacked them with gunfire.
Following the gun shots, security forces have been monitoring the situation apart from taking up necessary security measures to prevent any kind of unwanted incidents, said the sources.
On the other hand, suspected Kuki militants opened fire at different Tangkhul villages located along the Imphal-Ukhrul road today at around 7 pm.
The sources said that suspected Kuki militants opened fire toward Thoyee (Thawai) and Sharkapung villages from Shangkai.
Tangkhul village volunteers also retaliated by firing some rounds of bullets toward the suspected Kuki militants. Intermittent firing was going on between the suspected Kuki militants and Tangkhul village volunteers at Thoyee (Thawai), Sharka-pung and Shangkai villages till the time of filing this report, said sources.
