IMPHAL, Apr 5 : Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) have pledged to resist any attempts to carry out census operations in Manipur before the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.
This decision was made during a public meeting held today at the Uripok Yambem Leikai Community Hall.
During the meeting, a consensus was also reached to support the ongoing movement led by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD), which seeks to delay the census.
Notably, various organizations have been calling on the Government to first identify illegal immigrants and resettle internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their native areas before proceeding with the census. Despite these concerns, the Government has scheduled the house-listing operations for the census from September 1 to September 30, 2026.
