UKHRUL, 7 : At least seven women were hurt today after security forces charged at them with batons at the tri-junction of Leinganching/S Laho village.
A group of womenfolk from neighbouring villages of Litan were protesting in the area when a confrontation reportedly broke out with Central security forces.
Accusing the security forces of acting in a partisan manner, the womenfolk confronted them. The security forces then charged at the protesters with batons, said sources.
The security forces' lathi charge hurt at least seven women. One woman suffered serious injury on her forehead and was rushed to Ukhrul District Hospital for treatment, added the sources.
The womenfolk said Kuki militants attacked Sinakeithei village from three sides yesterday, and it prompted them to stage a protest in condemnation.
The situation in Litan area remains tense.
