MOIRANG, Apr 7: In yet another case of terror attack carried out by Kuki militants, two minors aged 5 years and five months were killed while they were sleeping as their mother sustained critical injuries.
At around 1 am on April 7, 2026, Kuki militants unleashed terror at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district under Moirang police station by firing bombs.
Oinam Tomthin (5 yrs) and his sister Oinam Yaisana (5 months) were killed in the terror attack. Their mother Oinam (ongbi) Binita (35) w/o Oinam Mangalnganba (Mangal) sustained critical injuries.
According to information culled from the spot, one of the bombs fired by the Kuki terrorists hit a northern window of Mangal’s house
The bomb exploded inside the room where Binita and her children were sleeping. Damages done by the bomb’s shrapnel were seen on the walls of the room.
It is said that Mangal’s house is isolated from the other houses of the village.
Meanwhile, many shocked and aggrieved villagers have questioned how Kuki militants managed to carry out such daring terror attacks when a large number of security forces are deployed in the area as well as in the adjoining hills.
Oinam Mangalnganba is a BSF personnel posted at Bihar while Binita works as a nurse at Guwahati.
Recently, Mangal came back home and the family was preparing for the Chakumba ceremony of their daughter Yaisana next month.
An RPG fitted with wire and a battery-like object was found around 70 feet away from the house of one Amujao which is located in the extreme periphery of Tronglaobi Awang Leikai.
The RPG was set off safely at around 11.37 am today.
Amujao’s house is separated by just 100 metres from the house of Oinam Babuton, grandfather of the two kids killed in the terror attack by Kuki terrorists.
Bodies of the two deceased kids have been deposited at RIMS mortuary while the mother is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity
Aggrieved and infuriated by the terror attack, a large number of people came out and blocked Tiddim Road since the wee hours.
They also torched three trucks heading toward Churachandpur.
The protesters burnt tyres in front of Moirang police station and vandalised a makeshift police outpost.
The road was also blocked at Moirang Lamkhai where another group of people staged a protest demonstration. Moirang Keithel too remained shut.
Later in the day, a public meeting was held at Tronglaobi with CSOs and Meira Paibis from different parts of Manipur
A JAC against the brutal killing of minor children––Oinam Tomthin Meitei, Oinam Yaisana Chanu and severely injuring Oinam (ongbi) Binita Leima w/o O Mangalnganba Meitei was formed at the meeting. Together with the CSOs and Meira Paibis, the JAC adopted a few resolutions including deployment of State forces in place of Central forces who have failed miserably to protect civilians from terrorists.
The second resolution said that the Kuki narco-terrorists involved in the terror attack should be arrested within five days and awarded capital punishment.
The JAC further resolved that a speedy, impartial and transparent enquiry must be initiated against the Central forces who failed to perform their duties effectively.
It also urged the Government to arm local volunteers so that they can protect their own villages.
The meeting further resolved to impose an economic blockade on all goods carriers travelling on Tiddim Road toward Churachandpur.
Notably, low-lying Moirang Tronglaobi is located close to the hill areas of Churachandpur and has witnessed repeated attacks from Kuki and Zo militants since they launched their violent aggression on May 3, 2023.
Meanwhile, local MLA Th Shanti has condemned the brutal attack in the strongest terms.
“This heinous act is nothing less than an act of terrorism. Such inhuman acts have no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest terms”, he said.
The MLA has also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
