IMPHAL, Apr 8 : Manipur University of Culture (MUC) Thang-Ta athletes stamped their authority to gather 17 more medals on Day 3 of the All India All India Inter University Thang-Ta Competition and cemented their position on top of the overall tally with 10 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze medals.
The third day of the competition also saw hosts Manipur University (MU) give a tough competition and gathering 5 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze to remain second with, 7 gold 8 silver and 4 bronze while Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) bagged 4 gold and 1 silver medal to remain third with overall 6 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.
National Sports University (NSU) are fourth with 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Day 3 highlight
Men’s Phunaba Ahanba
L Lenin of Manipur University secured the men’s -70 kg category Phunaba Ahanba gold medal beating M Elangamani Prabhu of TN Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU) in the final as W Rohit of MUC and Rahul Nath of Bhagwant University settled for the bronze medals.
-75 kg category gold medal meanwhile went to N Sadananda of MUC who beat MU’s Lisham Yohenba in the final. TNPESU’s V Sachin and Ashok Saini of Apex University shared the bronze medal podium in this category.
MU’s Nikhil Sagolshem meanwhile earned the -80 kg category gold medal beating MUC’s Chingakham Abash while Kartikey of University of Patanjali and Ajay Choudhary of Apex University bagged the bronze medals.
MUC’s W Joyson further extended their gold medal haul by beating TNPESU’s G Yuvaprasath as Mukesh Kumar of Apex University and Vijendra Singh of Bhagwant University claimed the bronze medals.
Women’s -44 kg category Phunaba Ahanba gold medal on the other hand went to MUC’s Leithanthem Ayingbi who got the better of MU’s Ningthoujam Linda in the final.

MUC’s Langoljam Roshni meanwhile beat M Agalya of TNPESU for the women’s -48 kg category Phunaba Anishuba title before Ahanthem Celina of MU sealed the -52 kg category title by beating Nupur Nath of the IFCAI University.
Meisnam Roniya of MUC claimed the -56 kg category title by defeating Mahira Gulzar of University of Kashmir in the final as DMU’s Huidrom Aleea Chanu beat NSU’s Ksh Sonali for the -60 kg category gold and University of Patanjali’s Riya sealed the -64 kg category gold by defeating Monika of Bhagwant University in the final.
Bharathir University also opened their gold medal account today with Mary Priyadharshini beating AV Monika of TNPESU for the -68 kg category title.
NSU’s Chanchanrani M meanwhile bagged the -72 kg category title by defeating MUC’s H Anamika before compatriot Sarungbam Julia beat Komal Kanwal of Mody University of Science and Technology for the -76 kg category gold.
In the meantime, DMU’s Thiyam Piyai Chanu picked the +76 kg category gold medal by defeating MU’s Laishram Shelly in the final.
Yash Gameti of Bhupal Nobles University also put his university name in the medal tally by beating K Mowleeswar of TNPESU in the men’s -46 kg category final.
Ng Victor Raj of NSU meanwhile defeated M Trinabarta of MUC for the -50 kg category gold as DMU’s Lucky Yumkhaibam beat Jawahar S of TNPESU for the -54 kg category gold.
Th Srinivas also won MU a gold medal by beating Langonba Oinam of DMU in the -58 kg category final while K Loveson Singh of NSU beat W Bidyasagar of MU in the -62 kg category final.
S Lamjingba of host MU also won a gold medal in the -66 kg category competition as he beat N Sadananda of MUC in the final.
GNA University’s Tarun Sharma also found his name among the gold medallists as he beat W Pritam of MUC in the -70 kg category final.
DMU’s Rimex Khuraijam on the other hand sealed the -75 kg category gold medal by beating M Nepolian of MU in the final.
The competition will conclude tomorrow at Dr Kamal Indoor Stadium, Manipur University.
