IMPHAL, May 10 : The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has expressed its appreciation toward the State Government following a major breakthrough regarding tribal student welfare in the capital. In a press release, the TYCM lauded Rangnamei Rang Peter, Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, for fulfilling an assurance made to tribal leaders earlier this year.
The Tribal Girls’ Hostel located at Old Lambulane, Imphal, is scheduled to commence functioning from June 2026.
The facility will be ready for the upcoming 2026–27 academic session, providing a long-awaited housing solution for students. To facilitate this, the Department issued a Notification on May 4, 2026, inviting Requests for Proposal (RFP) for the management and operation of the hostel.
The TYCM noted that it has been persistently advocating for this project since August 2025. Many tribal girl students from various districts currently reside in expensive and often precarious rented accommodations throughout Imphal. The opening of this dedicated hostel is seen as a critical step in easing their financial and safety concerns.
