Road block lifted

IMPHAL, May 11 : The road blockade launched on May 8 in parts of Imphal East district by Eastern Students Club and locals of the region has been withdrawn after reaching an understanding with the officials concerned of the State Government.
Speaking to the media, The Eastern Students Club (ESC), Nongmeibung general secretary Athokpam Punamchandra Meitei shared that ESC had made an appeal to the State Government to repair the dilapidated road going east from Checkon Traffic Point to Porompat DC and Nongmeibung Seram Leirak (Porompat Road No 2) between May 4 and 7.
Due to a lack of response from the Government, a blockade was imposed along these two roads from May 8 onwards.
However, as local residents were in the midst of continuing the blockade today, the Executive Engineer of PWD paid a visit and assured to start the road repair work soon, factoring in the weather conditions. After arriving at an understanding, ESC and the local people immediately withdrew the road blockade, said Athokpam Punamchandra.
