Imphal, May 12
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has lauded the research work of Albert Rajkumar, a PhD researcher and space architect from the State currently based at the University of Adelaide, Australia, who is working on human-robot collaboration for lunar infrastructure development.
On the occasion of National Technology Day on Monday, the Governor, in a Facebook post, highlighted Rajkumar’s pioneering work in developing extended reality (XR) tools aimed at simulating construction in extreme lunar environments.
Bhalla said Rajkumar’s work reflects the innovation, resilience and forward-thinking spirit of Manipuri talent, adding that his journey from Manipur to global space research is an inspiration for young minds to “dream bigger, innovate fearlessly, and shape the technologies of tomorrow.”
Rajkumar is currently presenting his research on human-robot collaboration for lunar infrastructure at the Australian Rover Challenge 2026. His work focuses on developing XR-based simulation platforms, including “SIDE QUEST”, an immersive virtual reality system that allows participants to collaborate with robotic systems in simulated lunar conditions for building sustainable structures.
The project aims to offer insights into how future space missions could deploy coordinated human-robot systems for construction beyond Earth.
Rajkumar, who studied at the School of Planning and Architecture and the University of Houston, integrates architecture, robotics and extended reality technologies to explore future space infrastructure and extraterrestrial habitats.
The Governor also noted that such innovations reflect India’s broader scientific progress, citing national initiatives such as the National Quantum Mission as examples of the country’s growing focus on research and emerging technologies.
He said India is steadily moving towards a future driven by science, innovation and transformative technologies, adding that National Technology Day is an occasion to recognise the contributions of scientists, engineers, innovators and young minds to nation-building.
