IMPHAL, May 12 : A video showing Assam Rifles personnel blocking vehicular movement in Ukhrul has gone viral on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred today along the Imphal-Phungyar highway at Shangshak Khullen in Ukhrul district.
One of the personnel could be heard saying, “Our convoy is also stopped there. Please don’t take videos.” No further explanation was provided during the confrontation.
In the footage, Assam Rifles personnel, including a female jawan, wearing masks, can be seen stopping vehicles by parking their vehicle across the road.
Even as the security personnel objected to being filmed, one commuter confronted the personnel on camera, asking for the reason for the blockade.
The security personnel asked him to turn off the camera, but the commuter insisted on an explanation.
He asked why he and other commuters were being stopped in their own area, but the security personnel refused to provide an explanation.
The video sparked reactions on social media, with users questioning the conduct of the Assam Rifles.
One user wrote, "Right to Move – Article 19 : Cannot be blocked indefinitely without reason. Unreasonable roadblocks can be challenged"
According to reliable sources, the blockade began around 11 am today.
The restriction has been lifted.
Another source indicated that an Assam Rifles convoy travelling toward the Indo-Myanmar border was stopped at Phungyar Headquarters and forced to turn back.
Additionally, Assam Rifles personnel from Sorde, Kamjong district, were reportedly stopped at Maileng village earlier today.
It is worth mentioning that an Assam Rifles convoy heading to the Indo-Myanmar border was also stopped at Wanglee village on Monday by local villagers.
During this confrontation, the villagers questioned the Assam Rifles personnel about their inaction during an attack by Kuki militants on the villages.
They alleged that those security personnel stationed near the border villages were passive observers during the attack, which lasted about an hour.
