Posers over fate of abducted 6 Naga men The false narratives continue

It is now no more a question of rescuing the six abducted Naga men, but more of expecting the great Indian security forces to uncover the truth behind their disappearance. A case of six fully grown men disappearing after they were first accosted by Kuki civilians (including women) and then later handed over to armed Kuki militants (if one goes by what has been narrated by the Naga women who were released by the Kuki armed persons), and a Government that just does not seem to know how to proceed on their trail. If one takes a look at the manner in which the Naga people, as a whole, have risen as one to protest the abductions then Manipur can surely expect more volatile days ahead. A case of the Government gradually allowing the situation to take a turn for the worse and this is what is extremely disturbing. Fearing the worst, this is the line maintained by the wives of the men whose whereabouts still remain unknown and one need not go into details to explain what the worst could mean. This is the reality and in between Manipur is in the midst of staring at all the false narratives being churned out by organisations representing the Kuki people, an art they have taken to the level of perfection since the evening of May 3, 2023. First it was the Meiteis (and it is still continuing) and now it is the Naga people who have to deal with the false narratives that are being fed to the country and the world. As repeated many times in this column, it did not take long for Kuki keyboard warriors to jump in and start pointing the finger of accusations at the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF (Kamson) once news of the assassination of three Thadou Church leaders went viral on the social media. Acting on this false narrative, a number of Naga people, correction 18 Naga people, including women and children, were abducted at Leivon Vaiphei village on May 13. The next day the 12 women and children were released but no one knows the fate of the six Naga men. It was in taking the false narrative a notch or two higher that the Kuki Inpi, Manipur came out with a nonsensical claim that all the abducted people have been set free and there is no question of the six Naga men being in their custody. To many, this is taking the understanding of lying to a new level and KIM seems to have mastered this fine art. An art they have been putting to good use since the evening of May 3, 2023 in conveniently overlooking the fact that violence first erupted at Churachandpur, Torbung and quickly spread to Kangpokpi and Moreh. Places where they are in majority. As repeatedly stated in this column, Imphal reacted late in the evening and it was in the evening of May 3, 2023 that a Kuki gentleman had dropped in at the office of this newspaper and he went back safely. An instance which The Sangai Express has repeated many times in this column and even after more than three years, ITLF, CoTU and KIM have shied away from answering who lit the first match stick at Churachandpur and Torbung. And the lies continue to this day.
When violence erupted in May of 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah talked about the guns looted from the police armouries in the valley area, but not once was any question raised on from where the guns used by the Kukis had come from. A line maintained by many of the media houses located in different parts of the country. And the guns in the hills continue to boom, kill and create havoc. So much is the sense of immunity given to the Kukis that they have deemed it fit to even come out with a statement warning against the copter service plying on the Imphal-Ukhrul route with the addendum that if the copter flies too low to ‘spy on them’ then it would be taken down. This itself should be more than enough to put the great Indian Army and others like the Assam Rifles to go after them, but if the past is any indication, it is more than likely that they would stick to the line that the Kukis only use ‘country made’ guns. For the moment, let it be clear that searching the jungles for the six abducted men has not led anywhere and likely that the thumb rule in any military operation must be the existence of a second option or Plan B. Why not go for it now ?
