Waking up to yet another killings Is there a Govt in place ?

Manipur woke up to yet another chilling news on June 5, 2026 and information of the killing of yet another three people was received with the question, is there a Government in place or not ? No one knows who or which group carried out the attack, but the fact that two members of a family and another man were shot dead at Loibol Khullen Kuki village in Kangpokpi district was more than enough for mischief makers to turn key board heroes and heroines and start the blame game. Taking off from here it did not take long for some well established Kuki civil society organisations including the Kuki Inpi, Manipur to point the finger of accusations at the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF (Kamson), a charge which was rebuffed to good effect by the NSCN (IM). The attack took place in the wee hours of June 5 but it still says something profound about the utter failure of the Government to ensure the rule of law and this is something which has been the defining feature of Manipur since the evening of May 3, 2023. As expected, Chief Minister Y Khemchand and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen have come out strongly against the dastardly killing but both have refused to own moral responsibility. Saitu-Gamphazol, where Laibol village is situated in Kangpokpi district, is close to the home turf of Nemcha Kipgen and by logical deduction the buck should stop with her, but there is nothing to suggest that the Government is keen on fixing responsibility. And it is against the reality of the Government and the Ministers refusing to own moral responsibility that the place has been going to the dogs since the evening of May 3, 2023. A trend which was visible before President’s Rule was imposed and after the popularly elected Government has been restored. Something is just not right and it is amid this failure to own responsibility and take steps to fix things that so many theories have been doing the round, making things all that more confusing. Soon after KIM pointed at the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF (Kamson) for carrying out the killings, another claim also made the round on the social media, wherein the killing was attributed to a clash between the KNF (P) and the KLA. A story that went viral on the social media. This is the world of the social media and while the Government is expected to look and move beyond the gibberish that have been hogging the limelight in the digital world, to many the claim or accusation of KIM will be taken with a pinch of salt for this is the same organisation which claimed that all the Naga people abducted on May 13 at Leilon Vaiphei village have been set free and they know nothing about the 6 Naga men who were also amongst those abducted and of whom nothing has been heard of.
This is also not the first time that the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF (Kamson) have come under accusation from the Kuki groups. Back on May 13, 2026, as news of the dastardly murder of the three Thadou Church leaders did the round, the two said outfits were squarely blamed, while overlooking the fact that the spot where the three were assassinated is the stronghold of a Kuki armed group, which is under the SoO agreement with the Government of India and Government of Manipur. So can Manipur expect to see another series of agitations and sit-in protests against the killing of the three persons, with the finger of accusation pointed at the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF (Kamson) ? Or will the claim that the Loibol killings was a direct fall out of a clash between the KNF (P) and the KLA gain more attention ? Either way, what stands true is that three persons have been killed and the Government does not seem to have any clue. It is this failure of the Government to ensure the rule of law which has ensured that confusion prevails and allegations continue to fly thick and fast. A sure shot formula to further erode the credibility of the Government and this is something which should be taken seriously. A Government which still does not know what has happened to the 6 Naga men who were abducted back on May 13, 2026 cannot be expected to effectively deal with the Loibol killings, which happened only on June 5 morning. On the May 13 abduction of the six Naga men, Home Minister Govindas has claimed that something solid may emerge in the next few days and the people can only pin their hope on this verbal assurance.
