Laitonjam Lanchenba wins bronze at 12th Asian Age Group Aquatics C’ship

IMPHAL, Jul 17 : Promising young Manipuri swimmer Laitonjam Lanchenba has done the Nation proud by clinching a bronze medal at the 12th Asian Age Group Aquatics Championships, which kicked off today in Bangkok, Thailand.
Competing in the grueling 100m butterfly stroke event, the Imphal East prodigy clocked an impressive 55.35 seconds to finish third on the podium.
His stellar performance anchored a strong opening day for the Indian contingent, which amassed a total of one silver and four bronze medals.  China’s Huashuo Ke (54.52 seconds) and Weichun Wang (54.86 seconds) secured the gold and silver spots, respectively.
Hailing from Brahmapur Bheigyabati Leikai, Lanchenba is the son of Laitonjam Kanta and Takhellambam Soniya. A Class XI student at Nongpok Maheikol, the young athlete’s international success marks a massive milestone for Manipur's aquatics community.
The prestigious continental championship is scheduled to run until July 25.
