Home delivery of LPG in Ukl town : Three collecting points

UKHRUL, Jul 21: Introduced as a smart solution to ease booking and curb fraudulent sale of LPG cylinders, the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system of delivery however has become a headache for consumers in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts where mobile network and internet services remain highly unreliable.
Other than this refilled cylinders are delivered only at three points. Consumers have to travel to these delivery points to get their refilled cylinders.
In places where mobile network and internet services are unavailable or unreliable, many households have complained that they are unable to book refilled LPG cylinders or get the DAC.
The DAC system allows consumers to book refilled cylinders with ease through misscall, IVSR/Phone call, SMS, WhatsApp or the Indian Oil One App.
After booking, a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) is sent to consumers on their registered mobile numbers which they share with delivery agents for authentication. No delivery is made without a valid DAC.
The DAC system is smart, but it remains impractical in places across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts where mobile network and internet services are unreliable, said consumers.
Meanwhile in Ukhrul town, consumers said they "disapprove of the supposed home delivery system being practised in the town."
A woman beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) said, "It is more like a roadside delivery system".
In Ukhrul town, refilled cylinders are delivered only at three points, she claimed.
Consumers have to travel to these delivery points to get their refilled cylinders, she added.
"Moreover, the Ukhrul gas agency charges Rs 60 per cylinder at the time of the delivery," she alleged.
Booking through the DAC system is also a problem for many who aren't literate or can't operate mobile phones, she said.
People aren't familiar with the new system, and it is causing delay in booking and delivery, she added.
"In case, a refilled LPG cylinder is not collected within 10 days, the DAC is cancelled and I have to re-book and do the same procedures again to get the refilled cylinder. And, the delivery takes weeks," she said.
