CM distributes welfare benefits worth Rs 91.66 Cr

IMPHAL, Jul 22: Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh distributed benefits worth Rs 91.66 crore of various welfare schemes at the City Convention Centre, Imphal today.
The benefits amounting to Rs 91,66,50,772 covered nearly 2,40,758 beneficiaries of 17 schemes imple- mented by the Social Welfare Department.
The schemes include Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Chief Minister's Widow Pension Scheme, Ima Nonthang-leima Yaipha Tengbang and schemes for disabled persons among others.
During the programme, CM Khemchand also formally launched an Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Y Khem-chand said that over the past three years, the State has gone through difficult times that have disrupted the lives of its people.
While the prolonged crisis has caused financial and mental hardships to the people to a great extent, the Government has been taking up efforts to provide assistance and relief, he said.
Khemchand said the Centre was urged to provide necessary assistance and release pending funds for schemes. The Rs 91.66 crore worth benefits were released under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he added.
Expressing confidence, Khemchand said he hopes that the distribution of the benefits would provide some relief to the people.
The Chief Minister further stated that peace and hard work are necessary for bringing development.
He urged people of all communities living in the State to consider themselves as Manipuris and contribute towards making Manipur a better State.
Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said today’s event (distribution of benefits of schemes) reflects the Government’s strong commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and the welfare of every section of society.
In recent years, many families in the State have faced great hardship. Women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and Inter- nally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have faced the greatest burden.
It is the shared responsibility of all to ensure that they receive the care, protection, support, and opportunities they deserve, he said.
Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, Commissioner (Social Welfare) Haobam Rosita, officials of the department, beneficiaries of schemes and students attended the programme.
