HT tower collapses at Keithelmanbi, 2 injured

KANGPOKPI, Jul 17: An electric tower carrying high tension wire of 132 KV Yurembam – Karong line at Keithelmanbi collapsed leaving two workers injured, today afternoon.
The power supply in Senapati, Kangpokpi and Sekmai area from the 132 KV Karong sub station have been disrupted due to snapping of conductor by a recent lightning while the MSPCL staff has been commendably working hard to restore the damaged HT wire.
However, in a shameful and rare incident, most of the iron rods which braces the tower at its base were stolen by unknown miscreants, which ultimately collapsed the tower despite frenzied efforts on the part of MSPDCL to restore the same. The tower collapsed and injured two workers of the department who were engaged in restoring the tower and they were reportedly referred to Imphal for further medical treatment after giving first aid at CHC Kangpokpi.
A source stated that the duo are from Assam and they were newly recruited as workers for the company.
They were admitted to Imphal Hospital.
