TNL appeals

Ukhrul: The Tangkhul customary apex body (TNL) has appealed the present BJP led State Government to immediately fill the vacant post of doctors and technicians in the Ukhrul district hospital.
According to a statement of TNL secretary Vareingam, the CM had assured during his maiden visit to Ukhrul to appoint super-specialist doctors and specialist doctors at the hopsital, reports our correspondent.
It further urged to install the required hospital equipment along with technicians in the wider interest of the people and also ensure health facilities in the district.

UDWJA revokes decision

Ukhrul: The Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) has revoked its decision to boycott any news of the ongoing Shirui festival with immediate effect, conveyed a press release issued by president of UDWJA.
It stated that the convenor of the organising committee and representatives of UDWJA reached an amicable understanding during a joint meeting held today.
The Shirui Lily festival concluded today.

Play on ‘Tangkhul Nurabi Loutarol ‘ enthralls crowd in Ukhrul

IMPHAL, May 18 : ‘Tangkhul Nurabi Loutarol’ section of Umang Lai Haraoba was staged by Taorem Tomchou and his party on the day 3 of Shirui Lily Festival at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Ground, Ukhrul today.
The play became the main highlight of the day 3 event as a large crowd of onlookers were left enthralled by the terrific performances of the artistes.
Speaking exclusively to The Sangai Express, Alan Zimik, one of the senior citizens of Viewland village, said, “Ever since the festival started, we all had been waiting for Tangkhul Nurabi Loutarol to be performed and we are amazed by the outstanding performances of all the artistes. The roles were performed so well that we were emotional throughout the play.”
Alan Zimik opined that such cultural programmes, if organised frequently in various parts of the State, will strengthen the bond of peace and love among the people of the State.
During a brief interaction with The Sangai Express today in Ukhrul, Taorem Tomchou, “We are very delighted that we are able to stage Tangkhul Nurabi Loutarol section of Umang Lai Haraoba during the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul.”
Mutum Maniton, convenor, Umanglai Kanba Lup said, “Tangkhul Nurabi Loutarol was staged not only to highlight one of the sections of Umang Lai Haraoba but mainly to depict the cordial relationship people of both hills and valley have since time immemorial.”

Ukl has tourism potential : Thai Minister

Ukhrul, May 17 : Tharadol Thongruang, Minis-ter Counsellor (Commercial) Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi has categorically stated that Ukhrul has immense potential to be developed as a beautiful tourism centre of Manipur.
The Thai Minister who is here to attend to Shirui Lily Festival while speaking at the one day Out Reach Programme on the theme “Global Projection of Ukhrul District as Tourism and Industry Destination” held at town hall, Phungreitang Ukhrul dwelt and explained on how Thailand is making headway in the tourism industry.
According to him, the moderate climatic condition of Ukhrul district and beautiful landscape is very similar to Bangkok and was visibly impressed with the hospitalilty extended by the people.
On the tourism prospect of Ukhurl, he said don’t worry too much on the lack of infrastructure and instead promote more homestay and less investment.
As a part of the programme a buyer seller meet was also held at the community cafe separately wherein he encouraged the people to rely more on horticulture obviously referring to the huge land mass available in the district.
Mentioning that fruits thrive well in high altitude, the Thai Minister said that Ukhrul can produce good quality fruits, which will be high on demand. The one day out reach programme was organized by Manipur Chamber of Conmerce and Industry (MCCI) in Association with Tangkhul Leihsak Long (TLL) and Autonomous District Council (ADC).

Ukhrul: President and all functionaries of 43-Phungyar Mandal, BJP conveyed gratitude to the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers for assuring an economic package of Rs 201 crore for Ukhrul district, announcement of five days State level Shirui Lily festival, commitment of deciding to take up various works within 100 days, attending to the grievances of the hills people on 10th of every month, holding People’s Day on 15th of every month etc.
The Mandal lauded president of BJP Manipur Pradesh Bhabananda Singh for being named the party’s candidate for the by-election to the Rajya Sabha.

Young entrepreneurs promote eco-tourism

Ukhrul,May 15:Northeast India is revered with unspoiled nature and the region is home to many picture like perfect unex-plored destinations and yet highly potential for tourist spots.
Leaving the comfortable job and opportunities in the metropolitan cities, these nine young lads from the landlocked state of Manipur had moved back home and now has set up their exclusive adventures organi- zation ‘Chiko Adventures’ in their home town, Ukhrul District, which is 84 kms away from Imphal.
Realizing the huge potentials and head full of dreams to fulfill, these young entrepreneurs, amidst the small shards of mountains engulfed in a candy of cloud and blacktop road spiraling around its endless curves, gave birth to Chiko Adventures in 2016 with funding from their own pockets.
At the same time, seeing the potentials in tourism, engulfed with full lush greeneries and yet no authorities’ efforts are seen to promote the blessings and nature’s beauty, these nine young men took a step further and give back to the community, a glimpse of hope and change.
Since then, there’s no turning back for Chiko team and strives more to harness tourism and promote eco-tourism in Ukhrul district and the neighboring places as a tourists’ hub.
The name ‘Chiko’ meaning the number nine in Tangkhul dialect which is mainly used by the Tang-khul Nagas, the native inhabitants of Ukhrul District in Manipur.
The young entrepreneurs firmly believed that by promoting the district as a tourist spot, tourism itself can drastically help improve the economic upliftment of the society by providing home stay, hotels, tourist guide, etc. to the tourists. Since the inception of Chiko, they have had organized various camping, trekking, cycle rally and mountain biking and sun-rise watch to different tourist attractions in and around the hill district.
“It was so great being with Chiko team. They are very professional and unity between the team is so strong. I am very satisfied with their way of dealing with their campers and I enjoyed a lot. And I look forward to be with the team again,” said Phapha Gachui, Miss Manipur 2016.
“For me, it’s an incredible experienced. I really had good times and met a lot of friends. What Chiko team is doing is really amazing. I personally really appreciates what they are doing, initiative, challenges and resources they are putting on. It is amazing of what they are doing for this land and the society,” added Chingri, another camper.
They, also continuously encouraged people to take up adventure activities and promote eco-friendly tourism as a community and also attend various adventure trainings and events themselves whenever the opportunity pops up.
Strapped in their camping gears and armors, the team up for challenging task to bring forth the thrilling adventures, by exploring the enchanting places and yet unexplored destinations along with the known places like Shirui Peak, Mova Cave, Khankhui Cave etc. of the hill district.
The team is now all gear up for outdoor adventures for the upcoming Shirui Lily festival, one of the premier festivals of Manipur, scheduled to be held from 16th to 21st May, 2017 in Ukhrul District.
As a way for source of income for the group, the team also rent out camping equipments like tents, sleeping bags and mountain bikes at minimal rates and aims to grow more in different aspects with the ultimate goal of promoting the pristine beauty of Ukhrul District across the globe. ANI

TMNL, TNBC welcome

Ukhrul: In connection with the celebration of Shirui Lily festival, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL)/ Youth Council has welcomed one and all to the festival and informed all to strictly follow the rules and regulations including smoking in public places.
A smoking zone/area has been constructed for the convenience of the public, the council stated and added that fines will be imposed to anyone disobeying the rule.
The Council has appealed everyone to cooperate and make the festival successful.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Baptist Church Convention (TNBC), Ukhrul has also welcomed each and everyone to participate in the first State level Shirui Lily festival at Ukhrul which begins tomorrow and will continue till May 20, conveyed a press release issued by the general secretary of TNBC.

AHTA condemns

Ukhrul: In view of the prolonged negligence on the part of district administration, All Hunphun Tang Association (AHTA) comprising of 21 localities has strongly condemned the authority concerned stating that many basic development programmes could not be taken up in time.
ATHA gave a detailed account on the alleged irregularities while addressing the members of Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) today.
During a press conference held at ATHA office, various issues were raised including immediate posting of Ukhrul SDO and while a strong caution was issued against the DSO for his irregularities.

Ukhrul CSOs warn UBI bank

Ukhrul: CSOs of Ukhrul have warned UBI bank, Ukhrul branch for persistent cash shortage and prolonged network problem which is causing inconveniences to the customers.
A petition was submitted to DC, Ukhrul by four Zonal chairmen of Tangkhul organisations seeking immediate redressal and to look into the matter for public conveniences.
In the complaint petition, it was mentioned that UBI, Ukhrul branch depend solely on BSNL adding the public cannot continue to rely on frequent breakdown of signal / network, reports our correspondent.
The petition also demanded immediate upgradation of the installed VSAT which is presently non-functional.
The CSOs, Ukhrul will launch different agitations if the authority concerned fails to act including shutting down of the bank.
