Debate on Governor’s note sets-off session
The State Assembly has begun an ex-haustive deliberation on the Governor’s address gi-ven at the inaugural session of this year’s first Assembly session on March 27 last.
Taking part in the deli-beration which would con- tinue till tomorrow, veteran MPP leader O Joy observed that the points highlighted in the Governor’s address was a ‘vision document’ of the projects/schemes planned by the Government for execution during the current year.
Comparing the vision document to a beautiful ly-ric, Joy said that the beau- tiful lyric would go waste if the singer could not sing it properly.

AR man dies in mishap

IMPHAL, Jul 3 : In a tragic mishap, an Assam Rifles se-poy died after a deadly fall from a three-storeyed building. The incident took place inside 36 AR Battalion Hqs at Lairouching, located about 29 kms south of Mao police station at about 8 am yesterday, conveyed a police source.
AR sepoy Salik Ram Ver-ma accidentally fell down from the roof of a three storeyed building within the battalion Hqs. He was immediately rushed to the unit hospital. But he succumbed to injuries at about 8.40 am yesterday.
Necessary arrangements have been made to send the corpse of Salik Ram Verma to his native place at Paragaon under Rajnandgaon district of Chhatisgarh.
Bomb retrieved
IMPHAL, Jul 3:Bomb experts of the State Police Department retrieved a hand grenade which was lobbed by unidentified persons at the Nagaram A block residence of MK Prestaw Shimray, who is a Scientific Officer in Environment and Ecology Wing, at around 6.30 am today. Nagaram Village Authority and North Imphal United Clubs and Meira Paibis’ Organisation (NIUCAMO) have strongly condemned the incident and appealed to all concerned to ensure such acts are not repeated.

MPP censures Govt’s militarisation policy
Other than efforts to control law and order through sustained militarisation, the Governor’s address did not mention any substantial measure taken up by the Government to solve the insurgency issue, asserted MPP MLA RK Anand adding it is still questionable whether the civil administration has been streamlined in the State.

AMTU alleges

IMPHAL, Jul 3: The North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Lamphelpat substation has been selected as a centre for joint research programme between CSIR, New Delhi and the Third World Academy of Sciences. Under this exchange programme, Godfrey Ngupula of Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute would do research programme on Lake Victoria, the largest lake of Africa under the supervision of Dr Huidrom Birkumar Singh, Scientist in-charge of NEIST substation, Lamphelpat, conveyed a press release.
